Driving Question: How can I, as an innovator, make a difference to the world.
I introduced the idea of Innovation Day to my students with a video that showed how a normal person can be an innovator. I posed the questions: How can you make a difference to the world, and how can your innovation project make life better for someone else. The students spent two weeks planning and researching their project. The students started gathering supplies and bringing them in for the BIG day. On March 20, 2013, the students spent all day creating their innovation projects.
Objectives:
The students will identify characteristics of Innovation Day.
The students will complete a KWL on Innovation Day.
The students will complete a graphic organizer that goes with the PowerPoint given by the teacher.
The students will select if they will work independently or with a group.
The students will research ideas that they might want to explore for Innovation Day.
The students will explore their top three choices for their Innovation Day project.
The students will build and print a mind map using an iPad application called Popplet.
The students will research their project choice.
The students will create a blue print of their model.
The students will decide what materials they need to build their innovation project.
The students will create a schedule of their day using elapsed time.
